Board Spotlight
Galen Ericson
I’ve lived and served in Blue Springs for many years, first as a veterinarian and now as a District 1 councilmember. Rotary means a great deal to me because it brings people together with a shared purpose—working to make our community stronger, safer, and better for everyone.
My path started at Kansas State University, where I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. I then served in the United States Air Force in Alaska, working with wildlife, military service animals, and public health programs. Those experiences shaped my commitment to service and to clear, steady leadership.
After returning to Missouri, I continued my veterinary career and now serve on the Missouri Veterinary Medical Board, helping ensure clarity, consistency, and high standards within the profession.
At the City Council, I place a strong emphasis on long-range planning. I’m deeply involved in guiding our downtown and community future plans, and I believe that a strong, vibrant downtown is essential to the overall feel and livability of Blue Springs. I stay focused on prevention-oriented community issues and the challenges posed by unregulated compounds, working to keep residents informed and supported. When an issue matters for the long-term health of our city, I don’t let up—I stay focused on the goal.
I care about building a community that works well for future generations. That includes better sidewalk connections, meaningful park development, and improvements that help create a connected, welcoming city for decades to come.
My wife, Evelyn, and I make our home here in Blue Springs, and we stay active in our church and family life. Rotary gives me another way to be part of something positive, and I value the chance to serve alongside people who care deeply about our community.
